Amber Alerts explained

An Amber Alert is a message delivered by an alert system that asks the public for help in finding missing children.

It launched in 1996 when Dallas-Fort Worth broadcasters teamed with local police to develop an early warning system.

There are guidelines for Amber Alerts, including a required “reasonable belief by law enforcement that an abduction has occurred.”

Authorities must also believe the child is in “imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death.”

Enough descriptive information about the child must be provided to the public in order for the alert to be useful.

The missing child must be 17 years old or younger.

Vehicle has been found

Police have found the car being driven in the case of missing Janayizha and Kaiden, according to NBC affiliate WSFA.

Investigators are still searching for the missing kids.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has named Janayizha Gunn as Kaiden Perryman’s “abductor” on their site.

“Montgomery PD has received additional information that Kaiden Perryman may have been abducted by Janayizha Gunn,” ALEA said in an update.

It’s unclear if Kaiden Tymari Perryman and Janayizha Qynterrica Gunn knew each other.

No information has been released about the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

What to know about the vehicle

The two kids were possibly traveling in a 2011 white Chevrolet Equinox with Alabama tag 6357BL5.

Janayizha Gunn, 13, was last seen driving the car.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Center reported that the car was since recovered – but the kids are still nowhere to be found.
