Tradie Jake Posa captured a 2.8-metre bull shark while fishing at Lake Orr on the Gold Coast, Queensland

A tradie has been left stunned after reeling in a monster bull shark while fishing on an artificial lake in a tinny.

Jake Posa, 27,  hooked the 2.8-metre bull shark at Lake Orr at Varsity Lakes on the Gold Coast, Queensland, around 5pm on Saturday.

Mr Posa managed to get back to shore and pull the shark in with the help of his friend Brendan and four other men who were at the lake.

The massive battle between the fishermen and the shark lasted more than two hours.

‘Getting towed around by a monster that big. It was just scary, like the same size as the boat obviously,’ Mr Posa told Nine News.

‘Lucky they (the fishermen) were there cause they gave us a hand to pull her up and get the hook out and do all that.’

Mr Posa told the Gold Coast Bulletin that the shark was initially ‘dragging my tinny around like it was nothing’ and the boat was going ‘faster than the motor ever could’.

‘We managed to get it to the cove and we put rope around its tail and pulled it up the bank,’ he said.

He estimated the shark weighed at least 250kg.

Mr Posa said he was well aware there were sharks that size in Lake Orr as he regularly fished in the area and had hooked a few of them in the past.

He filmed the capture of the bull shark and uploaded the video to social media.

The fisherman shared a photo to a Facebook community group with the caption: ‘Don’t swim in Lake Orr’.

He explained that he wanted to post the photo and footage to warn residents who regularly swam in the lake.

The bull shark was later released back into the lake by the men.

Lake Orr was built along with Lake Azzura when the suburb of Varsity Lakes was commenced as a residential development in 1999.
