AN entrepreneur who bought an abandoned school is now renting the space out as a wedding venue.
Ethan Bruton and his wife own the old middle school in Anderson, Alabama, about 60 miles northwest of Huntsville.
They began renovating the structure in 2016 and eventually built out an apartment for themselves.
The couple moved into a separate house after having a baby, but that doesn’t mean the old school is any less active.
“We actually have a wedding going on today,” Bruton said in an update video posted to YouTube.
He used the event as an opportunity to show off the space.
“They’ve got this set up for 100 guests,” Bruton said of the ballroom, which is the main space for parties
Although the room can seat 250, this setup left plenty of space for a bar, a dance floor, and a DJ booth.
Bruton went on to show off the sizable bride’s suite and a groom’s suite which comes complete with a big screen projector TV and a pool table.

“We’ve added a new catering kitchen,” he said while showing off an adjacent space with an oven and a commercial grade sink.
“We’ve got lots of countertop space.”
Bruton is also now renting out rooms to several businesses, including a photographer, a tattoo artist, and a company that sells dirt.
The apartment he and his wife lived in is now rented out to one of the business owners.
They had initially wanted to build a larger home in the school’s sizable cafeteria.
But it was was still being used as a trash room when the video was shot.
“We looked into having it as a living quarters, and the issue is that it’s on a really thick slab so we couldn’t really add plumbing,” Bruton said.
“It was actually cheaper to just buy a house and remodel it.”
That’s why he was planning to add climate-controlled storage units to the cafeteria instead.
