Prince William has expressed his immense pride in his wife, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, following her recent visit to Italy. This marks a significant milestone for the 44-year-old royal, as it was her first international engagement since being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in 2024.
Last week, Catherine embarked on a two-day visit to Reggio Emilia, marking her return to the global stage and royal duties. William shared his heartfelt sentiments during an interview on the Heart radio breakfast show, where he was asked about his wife’s journey and her recent trip.

“I’m very, very proud of her,” William said, beaming with admiration. “She’s been simply amazing. Over the past couple of years, she’s faced numerous challenges. She had been eagerly anticipating the Italian trip, and I’m thrilled to see it went so well.”
His words underscore the strength and resilience Catherine has demonstrated, not just in overcoming personal hurdles but also in continuing to fulfill her royal responsibilities with grace and dedication.
“She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. She’d been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot, and so I’m really glad it went really well.”
William, 43, also gave an insight into the painstaking preparation that Catherine had put in to the trip, where the princess continued her work for the Centre for Early Childhood – the foundation she set up in 2021.
The prince – who has children Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, with Catherine – explained: “She wanted to go and do lots of research. She spends God knows how much time now looking through all the paperwork. She’s a proper pro on early years and so most evenings I’m fighting to get past in the bedroom what paperwork that she’s got lined up ready to read.”
Catherine – who announced that she was in remission from cancer in January 2025 – received a rapturous reception in Italy but William explained that the couple are taking a steady approach as she returns to royal duties around the globe.
He said: “It’s kind of just sort of edging herself back into doing more and more of those trips.
“Away trips like that take a lot out of you because you’re on sort of permanent receive and send the whole time. And so, we have to balance that – make sure she’s okay and rested. But, yeah, she’s in good form.”
William has been delighted to see his wife get a sense of normality back in her life following her cancer battle.
The royal said: “She’s an amazing mum, an amazing wife, and literally our family couldn’t cope without her. She’s been absolutely stunning. Really has.”
