Arsenal have asked about the availability of Atletico Madrid and Portugal star Joao Felix, according to reports.
The 23-year-old is currently starring with his national team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as they booked their place in the quarter-finals.
He has two goals and three assists in three appearances so far, and he looks far more comfortable with Portugal than he does for Atletico.
“The way you play here and at the club are different,” Felix said to Portuguese channel Sport TV. “When the conditions are favourable, things go better.”
Felix was seemingly referencing his relationship with manager Diego Simeone, who has started him just five times in LaLiga this season.
They paid £113million to Benfica back in 2019, but just two-and-a-half years on it looks as though he may shortly be on the move again.
Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin told TVE: “For reasons it isn’t worth getting into – the relationship between him and the boss [Simeone], the minutes played, his motivation right now…
“It makes you think if there’s a reasonable option that’s good for the player, good for the club, we can look at it.
“I’d love for Joao to continue, but this is the current situation.”
One of the clubs who have now been linked to him is the Gunners.
Italian journalist Matteo Moretto claims Felix wants to leave and there is ‘no turning back’. Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are one of a number of clubs who have asked about him.
Atletico are likely to demand in the region of £121m [€140m] for the Portugal star.
Chelsea, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Aston Villa are also among the clubs linked with a move.
