Belinda Bencic started with an easy win over local Elena Malygina, conceding only two games to the world number 400. In the second round, however, Katie Boulter of the United Kingdom proved to be a far more formidable opponent, and it took three tough sets before the 145th-ranked player was finally defeated. In the quarter-finals, she faced Croat Donna Vekic in a match that started with both women dropping their serves, and then again. The Swiss took control of the second set with an early break, and despite having three break back points, Vukic was unable to convert any of them. Bencic then broke world number 66 one more time, allowing her to serve out the match.

Singles-wise, Barbora Krejcikova has yet to replicate her surprise win at the French Open last year, but she has advanced this week in Estonia without incident. She defeated Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia in straight sets in the first round, and Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in the second. In the quarter-finals, she faced Beatriz Haddad-Maia of Brazil, one of the former players in recent months and the third seed this week. However, in a first set in which she was unchallenged on her own serve, Krejcikova broke the Brazilian twice. When Haddad-Maia broke Krejcikova midway through the second set, it appeared that a comeback was on the cards. But she was broken again the next game, and while serving to stay in the match, she wilted under the pressure.
