Dominic Calvert-Lewin suffers ANOTHER injury during Everton’s 2-0 loss to Leicester

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was substituted during Everton’s 2-0 defeat to Leicester with yet another injury, after he reportedly felt a ‘sensation in his hamstring’. 

Calvert-Lewin has already missed the majority of this season, after suffering a ‘freak’ knee problem on the eve of the 2022/23 campaign, that kept him out of the Blues’ opening nine league matches. 

He has since returned to action, coming back into the side for their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in October, and has featured in six matches since, yielding one goal during Everton’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace.

It’s been a frustrating 15 months for the 25-year-old who was ruled out of 14 games last season with a fractured toe. 

Unfortunately for Everton, the injury immediately looked ominous, with Calvert-Lewin pulling up and headed down the tunnel straight away to the medical rooms. 

After the match, Frank Lampard confirmed fears that the Striker had suffered a ‘hamstring problem’ and which could spell ominous concerns over his availability for the World cup. 

When pressed on whether he knew how serious the injury was, the Everton boss said to Sky Sports: ‘No. We’ll scan it, it’s a sensation in his hamstring. We don’t feel it’s a bad injury, but we’ll have to wait for the scan.’

But after the game Lampard told BBC Sport that ‘it was on the lighter end of a hamstring injury’ 

While it’s not the first time Calvert-Lewin has had problems with his hamstring, being sidelined for a two matches in the 2020/21 season with a soft tissue problem, the striker now looks to be a big doubt for the world cup. 

After the game, Everton legend Kevin Campbell said to Sky Sports that the striker ‘may need to be managed better’.

‘Well he’s not going,’ Campbell said, when asked about Calvert-Lewin’s World Cup hopes.

‘Him coming back in and playing back-to-back games. Scoring against Crystal Palace, which was great for his confidence’ 

‘But Unfortunately he [Calvert-Lewin] has just not played enough football. Picking up these injuries, I think he needs a stretch of games and time where he plays a certain amount of minutes.’

‘But he keeps pulling up. He needs to be managed better. 

‘[Not going to] The World Cup is going to allow him to recover, get a lot of training in and then make an assault around Christmas time. But again. They’re going to have to keep him ticking over and organise some behind closed doors games.’ 

Frank Lampard now faces further injury blows, as Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana were also substituted in the second half with what appeared to be injuries.

Everton drop to 15th in the Premier League table, while Leicester leapfrog them on goal difference into 13th on goal difference.
