Fred Vasseur claims Ferrari and Charles Leclerc have the ‘same DNA’ after Monegasque’s mega contract extension

Charles Leclerc is one of the most highly-rated drivers on the current F1 grid. It was recently announced that he has signed a multi-year deal at Ferrari, and everyone on the team and fans all over the world, are incredibly pleased about it.

Fred Vasseur, the Ferrari team principal, was under a bit of pressure to get Charles Leclerc’s contract extension out of the way, and with it being done and dusted, he is very happy. He believes that Ferrari and Leclerc are similar in more than one way.

While talking about the same, Vasseur said, as reported by Motorsport:

Leclerc has been part of the Ferrari family for eight years now, since before he wore the tracksuit with the Prancing Horse. The DNA of our company as well as its values are part of him and it was therefore natural to agree on the renewal of our collaboration.

Looking at the reaction of the Frenchman, it is quite clear that he is on cloud 9 with managing to pull off the Monegasque driver’s contract extension. However, apart from being a multi-year deal, the exact duration of it has not yet been made known.

Charles Leclerc is seen by Ferrari as its next world champion

While Fred Vasseur has oozed immense optimism around Charles Leclerc’s contract extension, the latter is seen by many, including the Maranello-based team, as their next world champion. Ferrari last won the coveted driver’s world title in 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen.

Since then, the outfit has not been able to produce a championship-worthy car and this is one of the main reasons why Leclerc has, so far, only managed five wins in F1. He came closest to winning the title in 2022 when he finished in second place behind Max Verstappen.

Leclerc is currently 26 years old and with a new deal under his belt, he will look to make a serious challenge for the world championship during the upcoming 2024 F1 season. Considering this, the onus is on Vasseur and his team to provide him with a mighty weapon.

The SF-23 was heavily criticized last year by several people as it failed to make a decent impression. Moreover, because of its problems, Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were only able to secure a disappointing third place for the team in the Constructors Championship. The former ended his season in the fifth place in the driver’s tussle.
