Man United loanee Jadon Sancho was labelled the ‘worst player on the pitch’ by German media after his cameo in Borussia Dortmund’s recent league defeat.

Sancho struggled to make an impact as Dortmund lost 3-2 to Hoffenheim on Sunday evening, as Maximilian Beier struck a brace to earn three points for the visitors.

The United outcast made his seventh appearance of the campaign for the Black and Yellows since returning on a loan deal during the January transfer window.

Despite recording two assists in his first two games back, he’s failed to record a goal contribution since and has now been slammed for his performances.

On Sancho’s cameo, German media outlet Der Westen wrote: ‘BVB was so happy when Jadon Sancho was brought back during the last winter transfer period. The prodigal son is finally back.

‘He really sent the fans into a state of euphoria. A few weeks later there is no sign of it anymore. Against TSG Hoffenheim, the supporters hoped that the 23-year-old would finally score his first goal.

‘But they were disappointed once again. The BVB star showed another poor performance against Hoffenheim and was probably the worst player on the pitch.’

Sancho played 75 minutes of the match before being substituted in the match, having failed to register a shot on goal or an accurate cross for team-mates.

The England international returned to his old club last month after United manager Erik ten Hag fell out with the £73million winger.

United may look to offload Sancho in the summer but Dortmund’s sporting director Sebastian Kehl has already pretty much ruled out making his loan permanent.

Kehl said the situation was similar with Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen.

‘Unfortunately for both players, neither option was realistic. If you know what we got for Jadon Sancho two-and-a-half years ago, then you know also that it might not be very, very difficult,’ he told Sky Sports Germany.

‘We naturally advocated for an option on him – and also with Ian – but the negotiating position was not such that we could implement it and so we will accept it for now.’

United are keen for Sancho to perform strongly at Dortmund in case they decide to cut their losses with the £73m winger in the summer.

They are highly unlikely to recoup their full outlay on a player who struggled to hit the heights during the two full seasons spent at Old Trafford.
