Loris Karius’ fiancee has asked him to leave Newcastle due to the inconvenience of living in the area.

Karius has settled in well at the Magpies, playing the role of third-choice goalkeeper as he looks to somewhat rebuild his career after a torrid time at Liverpool that ended two years ago.

The German has made one appearance for the club this season, coming in the 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in February, after putting pen-to-paper on a new contract in the summer having impressed Eddie Howe in his time with his side last season.

And it has emerged that Leotta, 32, wants Karius to change clubs due to the difficulty of getting to Italy.

Leotta lives in her homeland with Aria, with Karius situated in Newcastle while he is involved in club football.

He is out of contract at Newcastle at the end of the season and his future remains unclear despite the conclusion of the campaign now just a matter of weeks away.

‘Loris has people at his side who work for him,’ she told Italian newspaper Tuttosport. ‘I hope he makes the best decision for his career.

‘I live in Milan, so let’s say being close to Milan would be ideal for us. I always tell him, players who come to Serie A then fall in love with Italy and often stay there forever. I think that could happen to him too.

‘[He should join] Monza or any other team in Italy. I would be happy if he came to Italy to play near his family.

‘Newcastle is very inconvenient because there are no direct flights. Neither about Paris nor about Amsterdam.’

The pair broke the news of their engagement in January, five months after the birth of their daughter, with Diletta posing on Instagram with her new ring.

They have been together since October 2022, in the aftermath of Karius’ exit from Liverpool, but have had to make do with a long-distance relationship due to the nature of their work.

Diletta is a sports presenter for DAZN in Italy and also a model.

She was recently asked of Karius’ opinion on goalkeeper in Italy, with the German seemingly comparing himself to those that play his position in the division.

‘He knows many of them,’ she said. ‘He has even played with some but it is a championship he doesn’t know yet.

‘He knows that the level of the number one players is high.’
