It’s been less than a month since Shannon Sharpe left his seat on ‘Undisputed,’ but Skip Bayless already has his next co-host in mind.

Sharpe, a Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end, was on the show for seven years and signed off for the last time on June 13.

And Bayless is apparently targeting another former sports star to take Sharpe’s place – but not for the reason you might think.

‘Charles Barkley would be my dream debate partner on ‘Undisputed,’ Bayless said on his eponymous podcast.

‘Please, Charles, please come and please work with me, this ‘damn idiot.’ What a joy it would be to do battle every day with Charles Barkley live on television.’

‘I could semi-retire,’ Bayless continued. I could mail it in. I could, dare I say, actually have a life and forget about prepping so furiously hard night after night after night for every day’s ‘Undisputed.”

Bayless’ self-deprecating claim that he was a ‘damn idiot’ was really a subtle nod to Barkley’s comments about him last week.

‘I want one of those jobs where I can get a buyout for working with an idiot,’ he said about Sharpe’s departure from ‘Undisputed,’ during TNT’s coverage of The Match. ‘What do you think Ernie? You think I can get a buyout for working with Shaq?’

Thus, it seems unlikely that Bayless and Barkley will be working together anytime soon.

‘All I’d have to do is let Charles go first and listen to him make a fool out of himself. I’d get to sit back and watch him walk himself right into an indefensible trap. I wouldn’t even have to try,’ Bayless continued.

‘Please let me annihilate you on a daily basis… Let me make barbecue chicken out of you.’

Aside from Barkley’s apparent distaste for Bayless, he already has a busy schedule as a broadcaster.

In addition to being part of TNT’s acclaimed basketball show ‘Inside the NBA,’ he’s also set to begin a CNN show in the fall with Gayle King.

As for Sharpe, it may not be long before he’s back on the air.

According to a report from Front Office Sports, he’s been in talks with sports betting powerhouse FanDuel.
