Why Jacinda Ardern Resigns As New Zealand Prime Minister?

Jacinda Ardern has choked back tears as she announced her resignation as New Zealand Prime Minister in an emotional press conference.

Her resignation comes into effect on Sunday if the Labour Party can elect her replacement, or on February 7 if the process was drawn out.

‘I am human. Politicians are human. We give all we can for as long as we can – and then it’s time. And for me, it’s time,’ she said.

‘I know what this job takes. And I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice.’

Jacinda Ardern has choked back tears as she announced her resignation as New Zealand Prime Minister

When Jacinda Ardern announced her resignation as prime minister of New Zealand, she struggled to hold back her tears.

Prior to the impending election, Ms. Ardern stated that her party’s polling deficit to the opposition National Party had nothing to do with her decision to resign.

She declared, “I am not quitting because I think we can’t win the election, but because I think we can and will.”

The following New Zealand election, Ms. Ardern stated during her departure speech, will take place on October 14.

When asked if she will join the UN after leaving office, the departing prime minister dodged the question.

Ms Ardern shared a message to her fiancé, Clarke Gayford, saying: ‘Let’s finally get married’.

She resigns at just 42 after becoming leader just over five years ago on October 26, 2017, and was New Zealand’s youngest-ever PM.
