CHICAGO (WLS) — A significant development has emerged in a tragic case from Chicago’s South Side, where a teenager is now facing a first-degree murder charge. This follows the shooting death of a 13-year-old boy two months ago, according to local police.
The young victim, identified as DeAntwan McKeever, was just 13 years old when he succumbed to his injuries, a week after being shot in the South Chicago neighborhood, authorities stated.

The incident took place on May 21 at approximately 2:50 p.m., unfolding in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue within South Chicago, detailed police reports indicate.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered DeAntwan with a severe gunshot wound to the head. He was immediately rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, as confirmed by the Chicago Police Department.
Tragically, just a week later, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office announced DeAntwan’s passing, formally identifying him and marking a somber conclusion to his young life.
Police spent much of the evening the day of the shooting on that block and were seen going door to door for surveillance video.
Now, two month after the shooting, Chicago police announced a suspect has been charged.
A 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday in Chicago, police said. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the shooting.
CPD has not named the suspect because he is a minor.
The teen suspect will appear in court Saturday.
No further information was available as Chicago police continue to investigate.
