Sheriff T.K. Waters confirms gang violence led to the murder of 7-year-old Breon Allen Jr. There are 32 documented gangs in Jacksonville that JSO monitors.

Four men are behind bars and being charged in connection with the murder of 7-year-old Breon Allen Jr.

Sheriff Waters announced today his death was the result of gang violence.

As of right now, there are 32 documented gangs in Jacksonville that JSO monitors on a daily basis. With these four men arrested, community advocates believe police are doing the best they can to get gang members off the street.

“I was very sad because I’m a father … it hit home because that can be any of our child,” said A.J. Jordan, M.A.D D.A.D.S outreach coordinator.

As a father and grandfather, A.J. Jordan with the crime-fighting group, M.A.D D.A.D.S is saddened over the senseless killing of 7-year-old Breon Allen Jr. on Jan. 24.

However, today, Jordan is relieved. Now four men have been arrested and charged with Allen’s murder.

“It felt so good watching those guys walk to the courthouse. It’s sad at the same time cause it’s no winners.”

Three men were gang members, while one was a gang associate, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

First Coast News Crime and Safety Expert Ken Jefferson said there are more than 30 documented gangs in Jacksonville, all are monitored by the JSO gang unit.

“It was a sad day when we learned of the death of Breon but it’s a great day when we find out four men that’s responsible for this has been arrested and spend a significant amount of time in jail,” said Ken Jefferson

“The fact that they know the gang members they know the different gangs that’s involved is a plus to help them be proactive,” said Jefferson.

According to Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters, more arrests are expected to be made in connection to this case.

“When the Sheriff said this is just the beginning he’s sending out a message that you can run but you can’t hide,” said Jefferson.

As police continue doing their job, community advocates, like Jordan, said it’s on the community to help bring an end to the violence and justice for the Allen family.

“When we work as a collective, we get good results so that’s why it’s important for us to work together,” said Jordan, “M.A.D D.A.D.S is happy for the family. The community is happy for the family and I’m glad we came through for Breon. She said say Breon’s name every day and we’re gonna say his name every day.”

The four men arrested are being held without bond.
