HONOLULU (KHON2) A Maui bakery that’s home of the crispy manju announced they will no longer be saying goodbye to the Wailuku community.
Two weeks ago, Home Maid Bakery announced it would be shutting its doors for good after more than 60 years in business. On Tuesday, the company announced it will remain open until further notice.
Owners Joseph and Monica Kozuki said a potential buyer approached them and will keep the business running as they discuss a change in ownership.
In a letter sent by Home Maid Bakery, it was the overwhelming support that brought potential buyers to the business.
The letter also read:
We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from loyal customers like yourself. Your continued patronage and orders have been instrumental in our decision to explore options to keep Home Maid Bakery running.

Initially, the bakery announced they would be closing due to financial hardships caused by the pandemic and the Maui wildfires.
“It was just one thing after another. And, yeah, we just couldn’t make it anymore,” Kozuki said. “It was a hard decision. And it’s definitely sad to, you know, do what we’re doing.”
The Chamber of Commerce Hawaii is still working with lawmakers to prevent other businesses from permanently closing their doors.
“We launched our blueprint 2030, back in January, to evaluate what are the obstacles, the challenges that make our business climate, the worst in the nation,” Menor-McNamara explained. “And what can we do to attack those problems and challenges and find policies, find solutions so that we can build a better business climate.”
Home Maid urged customers to continue supporting the business by placing orders and said they are dedicated to providing the same locally baked products customers have come to expect.
