Blessing, along with her babies, was rescued after being found behind a gas station on U.S. 41 in Lutz on Thursday.

TAMPA, Fla. — The Humane Society of Tampa Bay says one of three dogs that were found abandoned in the woods on Thursday has died.

Blessing, along with her babies, Hope and Spirit, was found behind Blessings Gas Station on U.S. 41 in Lutz. Two brave young girls found the dogs, weighing 16 pounds each, and drove them straight to the shelter.

Blessing had been in the worst shape. The shelter said she was cold to the touch when she arrived, emaciated, soaked in urine, covered in sores and parvo positive.

On Friday, the shelter posted an update to its Facebook, saying the dog died after she stopped eating, her temperature fell to 93 degrees and her breathing labored.

“To say that we are devastated is an understatement,” the shelter wrote.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay says it is offering a $500 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the person or people responsible. Officials are asking for tips to be sent to communications@humanesocietytampa.org as they work with animal control and law enforcement on the case, which the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating.

The shelter is also reminding people that there are several options and resources available around the Tampa Bay area if you are unable to take care of a pet or animal, including the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center.

According to HCSO, as of Saturday afternoon, no one has been charged in the case.
