Mark Consuelos is preparing for what he described as a “major” toe operation after enduring a painful foot problem for more than a year.
The 55-year-old television host revealed the news during Friday’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, where he was joined by his wife and cohost, Kelly Ripa, also 55.
“Today’s the day,” Consuelos announced at the beginning of the show. He explained that he had delayed the toe surgery for roughly a year.
Ripa, who recently recovered from gum graft surgery over the summer, said she planned to accompany her husband to the appointment and help him through his recovery.
She then teased Consuelos, saying she was looking forward to recording him as he emerged from the effects of propofol anesthesia.
“That’s right. People say some funny, funny things,” Consuelos responded.
Ripa reminded him that she already had video of him from his previous foot surgery.

Consuelos also admitted that he had been fasting since the day before the operation. Without food, he said he was already feeling “a little loopy.”
Ripa questioned the instructions, saying she had never heard of someone being required to fast for a full 24 hours before surgery.
“It’s dumb. I just want to eat!” Consuelos joked, adding that he could be persuaded to have a meal at any moment.
The couple also used the opening segment to talk through how Consuelos planned to spend his time while recovering at home.
He asked Ripa to handle some of his usual responsibilities, including taking their dog for walks and staying close by while he rested and healed.
In a playful appeal for her full attention, he told her to put down her phone and remove her AirPods.
Ripa said she had also assembled a list of ways to keep her husband occupied during his post-surgery recovery.
Her suggestions included reading, journaling and playing games. She even offered to teach him how to knit.

“Today’s the day,” Consuelos told Ripa and the audience, revealing that he had postponed his toe surgery for about a year.
Ripa said she would go with Consuelos to the procedure and care for him afterward, having recently recovered from gum graft surgery herself.
Consuelos said he had been fasting since the previous day and was already feeling “a little loopy” before the operation; he is pictured in June.
‘Yeah, I’m going to bedazzle my boot,’ Consuelos quipped in response.
Consuelos did not share much about the surgery but revealed more details after Ripa jokingly asked him if he was undergoing the procedure to improve his golf game.
He responded by noting that the surgery is necessary.
‘No, it’s arthritic, it’s bad,’ he said. ‘I need help. Yeah, it hurts.’
