Actress Daphne Blunt Condemns Hotel Staff for Alleged Racism: Demand for Accountability Grows

Actress Daphne Blunt recently voiced allegations of ‘racism’ against a staff member at a well-known Hollywood hotel.

The 28-year-old, famed for her role in The Young & The Restless, utilized TikTok to air her grievances with the upscale Hotel Bel-Air.

Blunt recounted an incident where an employee allegedly ‘humiliated’ her in public for misplacing her ID, suggesting that the interaction had a racial undertone.

In response, the hotel has begun an ‘internal investigation’ and reported that the staff member’s actions complied with California law.

Blunt expressed her fondness for Hotel Bel-Air, describing its bar as one of her cherished spots in Los Angeles in the posted video.

Last month, she said she went there for dinner and drinks with two of her girlfriends, and claimed that she experienced the ‘rudest, most abrupt and clearly bigoted treatment she has ever received.’

‘We ordered drinks and [the server] asked to see our ID, I looked in my purse and realized I had forgotten my ID, I couldn’t find my wallet,’ Blunt explained.

‘I was like, “Oh my God, that’s so weird, but I have my government issued ID in my Apple wallet.” I was like, “Do you accept this? I can’t seem to find my wallet.” [The server] said, “Let me go ask my manager.”‘

Blunt said when the manager came over she also showed him a photo of her passport and asked that he Google her name, since her date of birth is public, but was told that he had to go check if they could accept that. 

She said it seemed like the staff was avoiding her after that and that no one came back to address the situation for a long time.

‘They have the audacity to bring my two friends their drinks without having resolved the situation,’ she added. 

Eventually, Blunt said she looked in the pocket of her purse and realized that her ID was in there.

Relieved, she figured the situation would soon be resolved, but what happened next left her feeling extremely ‘humiliated.’ 

‘Then this woman comes over, she has decided this is her moment, she’s gonna show me,’ Blunt said. 

‘Now I not only have my physical ID, my virtual ID, a photo of my passport and my birthday is Google-able, but she is [still] refusing to accept my ID. 

‘She was totally willing to accept both of my friend’s IDs, who are both white. I’m just really baffled by this and questioning her on it and asking her to explain and she’s like, “We can’t [serve you], we can risk losing our liquor license by serving you.” Only me though, not my two friends.

‘Are you really willing to throw away loyal patrons who have been coming here for years, who bring you so much business? Over you being unwilling to accept my valid California ID?  

‘I had no other way to feel about this than to [think] it was racially motivated.’

Blunt reiterated that she goes there ‘all the time’ with her parents, and alleged that whenever she’s with her dad, who is white, she was never carded. 

‘She went out of her way to humiliate me in front of my friends,’ Blunt scathed.

‘This is a place that I go to all the time, a place I’ve always felt welcomed and safe in. I don’t want to go there now, I don’t want to go there as long as this woman works there.

‘I don’t feel comfortable supporting establishments that employ people who are being openly bigoted and racist.’

In a statement to the New York Post, Hotel Bel-Air said it has ‘zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind and take these allegations very seriously.’

‘At the heart of our hotel is a commitment to making every guest and employee feel valued, respected and safe – we do not tolerate prejudice of any kind,’ the hotel added. 

‘Out of respect for the privacy of our guests, we do not publicly comment on the details of private matters. 

‘We can confirm the concerns were acted upon immediately, and a comprehensive internal investigation concluded that our employee acted in accordance with California law.’
