Andy Cohen takes aim at Eric Adams' 'chaotic' tenure as NYC mayor

In a spirited critique, Bravo host Andy Cohen didn’t hold back his thoughts on former New York City Mayor Eric Adams during an early Thursday broadcast. Cohen labeled Adams’ time as mayor of the nation’s largest city as “chaotic” and “horrible,” just as Adams’ successor, Zohran Mamdani, was taking the oath of office.

“As we witness the final moments of Mayor Adams’ chaotic and disastrous era, I just want to point out that he got his pardons. Great, now go enjoy the sunset,” Cohen commented shortly after midnight while co-hosting CNN’s New Year’s Eve special. “We’ll manage with what you’ve left us,” he added.

Cohen continued, “Go on and dance away. We’ll see you at all the parties, as you did throughout your four-year term.”

Despite the efforts of his co-host Anderson Cooper and guest actor B.J. Novak to temper Cohen’s outburst, they were largely unsuccessful.

“Andy, Andy, we need to stop you there. I’ve seen this before,” Novak interjected, alluding to Cohen’s previous on-air tirade against former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2022, which led to a temporary ban on alcohol during the typically spirited New Year’s Eve broadcast.

Cohen conceded Thursday that Adams had “dented the rat population” during his term. Adams declared a “War on Rats,” appointing a so-called “rat czar” to address the city’s rodent problems. Last month, he signed an executive order creating a new office dedicated to “rodent mitigation.”

However, he faced numerous controversies as mayor, particularly his indictment in 2024 on bribery charges. The charges were ultimately dismissed in April after the Justice Department argued they were interfering with federal immigration efforts.

Mamdani, was sworn in as the city’s 112th mayor shortly after midnight in a private ceremony at an abandoned subway station near City Hall. He was publicly sworn in later Thursday, where he gave an address defending his ambitious agenda for the city.
