(NewsNation) — Authorities in Oregon are asking for the public’s help in the search for a missing 78-year-old man.

Thomas Weightman was reported missing on Tuesday. According to his family members, he left home on foot at around 10 a.m. but did not return.

The family had brief cell phone contact with Weightman, who said he fell into a hole and wasn’t sure where he was.

The Forest Grove Police Department tried to triangulate the position of Weightman’s cell phone but was unsuccessful due to the remoteness of the area.

Search efforts are underway, and investigators are asking residents along Gales Creek Road for help checking their property.

Weightman is 5 feet 9 inches and weighs 165 pounds with gray hair and a gray beard. He wears glasses and was last seen wearing black shoes, blue jeans and a red flannel button-up shirt with a dark-colored baseball cap.

Anyone who has seen Weightman after 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 should contact authorities.
