Birmingham Homicide: Court Rules Death as Justifiable

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department has changed the status of a homicide case from May to a Justifiable Death.

This determination came after detectives from the BPD submitted the case to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office for review.

The incident in question unfolded on Tuesday, May 19, along the 1000 block of Hyacinth Drive. Martez Dunner, an adult male, was discovered with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital but succumbed to his injuries.

After investigating, BPD detectives shared their findings with the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office, which concluded that the actions of the individual involved were justifiable. As a result, no criminal charges will be pursued.
