The second season of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender has made its much-anticipated return.
Whether or not you caught the animated original, fans of the live-action adaptation were already familiar with the tale of four nations—the Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads—living peacefully before the Fire Nation initiated a devastating conflict. The narrative follows the adventures of Aang, portrayed by Gordon Cormier, a young Air Nomad who embarks on a mission to master bending the four elements. With assistance from his companions, he aims to overthrow the Fire Nation’s oppressive rule.
The live-action iteration has embraced significant creative transformations to distinguish itself from its predecessor. Particularly in its second season, Netflix’s version has introduced a brand-new character that adds depth and propels several beloved character arcs.
Who is Fei on ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’?
Fei is one such character crafted solely for the live-action series. Absent from the original, Madison Hu brings Fei to life as a member of the Earth Kingdom. Fei makes her debut in the second episode, tasked with presenting Zuko, played by Dallas Liu, the harsh realities left in the wake of the Fire Nation’s violent campaigns.
The introduction comes when Zuko, assisting a young boy named Peng, portrayed by Rickie Wang, in the marketplace, is invited into the siblings’ home. There, he uncovers the heartbreaking story of their past, directly tied to the Fire Nation’s brutal actions. An intense and poignant encounter unfolds between Fei and Zuko.
Who is Madison Hu?
The name Madison Hu might sound familiar if you were still watching Disney Channel in the late 2010s. The 24-year-old actress is best known for her role as Frankie Wong in the comedy series Bizaardvark, alongside Olivia Rodrigo and Jake Paul. She also did a brief stint on the show Best Friends Whenever. Outside of Disney, she has been in films such as The Boogeyman, Night Shift, Voyagers and The Brothers Sun.
Prior to getting the role of Fei, people were already fan casting Madison Hu as other characters in the ATLA universe. The most popular one being Mei, who is played by Thalia Tran.
How does Madison Hu know Olivia Rodrigo?
As previously stated, Madison Hu and Olivia Rodrigo starred alongside each other in Disney’s Bizaardvark. The two played onscreen best friends Frankie and Paige, who ran an online comedy channel where they did funny music videos and sketches. The two remained best friends after filming—12 years in counting—and you can see them often featured on each other’s instagram feeds or just out and about.
