Black NYC Politician Accuses DSA of ‘White Supremacy’ in Escalating Democratic Social Media Clash

A leading African American political figure in New York City likened some of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s supporters within the Democratic Socialists of America to white supremacists. This comparison surfaced amidst a public Democratic feud that played out on social media.

Queens Borough President Donovan Richards took a strong stance against the DSA, criticizing the organization for overlooking racial issues while attempting to expand its influence and dismantle capitalism.

“White supremacy manifests in various forms,” Richards declared in a social media post late on Sunday.

The outspoken response followed an online debate prompted by a New York Times article. The piece outlined how the Democratic Party’s extreme left wing pushes its agenda, often neglecting the concerns of black and Latino members within New York City’s five boroughs.

Despite the DSA’s support of candidates from minority backgrounds—like its high-profile members AOC, who is Latina, and Uganda-born Mamdani—the group mainly consists of white members.

According to a 2021 survey, 85% of the DSA is white.

The group also has a history of using vulnerable districts to parachute in one of its own instead of building canidates from locals, insiders have claimed.

Richard doubled down on the accusation, sharing a Maclom X quote that called white liberals “dangerous… foxes.”
