In a memorable and final performance, Bonnie Tyler passionately sang “Total Eclipse of the Heart” during what would be her last concert before her untimely passing.
The acclaimed Grammy nominee brought her powerful voice to the stage at London’s iconic Shepherd’s Bush Empire on March 19, captivating audiences with her mesmerizing hit.
Radiating joy as she delivered the iconic ’80s power ballad, Tyler engaged the crowd by extending her microphone for them to join in the chorus.
Appearing vibrant and full of life, Tyler dazzled in a glittering top paired with a sleek black blazer during her performance.
Though she had plans to grace the stage once more in Cardiff just two days later, the concert was delayed. By the end of April, Tyler faced a serious health challenge, leading to her hospitalization in Faro, Portugal, due to a severe bowel tear.
Tyler, born Gaynor Sullivan, underwent emergency intestinal surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma due to complications from the procedure.
When doctors first attempted to bring Tyler out of the coma, she went into cardiac arrest — but was ultimately awoken in June.
However, the “Holding Out For a Hero” hitmaker’s team clarified that she was still “seriously ill” and had a “slow … recovery process” ahead of her.
On Thursday, news broke of Tyler’s death at age 75.
“Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for,” a spokesperson said.
“We will issue a further statement shortly but for now ask for privacy to deal with this tragedy,” the statement concluded.
Just ahead of her health scare, Tyler gushed to Hello! magazine about being “fit enough” to perform “at the moment.
“Touch wood,” she quipped. “I’m really enjoying doing the shows. I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.”
Tyler, who is survived by husband Robert Sullivan, had been scheduled to embark on a European tour in May.
Her cause of death remains unknown.
