BEDFORD, N.H. – Eugene Mirman, the well-known comedian and “Bob’s Burgers” voice actor, sustained significant injuries following a car collision with a toll plaza. The dramatic incident saw a state trooper, tasked with safeguarding New Hampshire’s governor, rescue him from the blazing vehicle.
The accident unfolded just before noon on Tuesday when Mirman’s northbound electric car collided with the Bedford Toll Plaza and ignited in flames, according to New Hampshire State Police. Republican Governor Kelly Ayotte, traveling with her security team, encountered the scene shortly after the crash. State Police Colonel Mark Hall reported that a trooper, along with two other individuals, courageously extracted Mirman through a car window. Hall assured that the governor, who had exited her car to grab a fire extinguisher, was not endangered during the incident.
Mirman’s agent, Jay Glassner, confirmed the accident in a statement on Wednesday, saying, “Eugene was involved in a very frightening car accident. He wishes to extend his gratitude to the bystanders, state police, first responders, and medical staff who rescued him. He is thankful to be on the road to recovery. We respectfully request privacy for Eugene and his family as he concentrates on healing from his injuries.”
Colonel Hall praised the rescuers’ actions as “heroic,” emphasizing their bravery.
“Without a second thought, they risked their own safety to assist someone in desperate need,” Hall remarked.
State police identified the driver as Yevgeny Mirman, 51, of Massachusetts. Mirman, who was born in Moscow and grew up in Massachusetts, is known for voicing musical middle child Gene Belcher in more than 300 episodes of the animated comedy “Bob’s Burgers” and its movie, in addition to roles on “Flight of the Conchords,” “Delocated” and “Archer.”
Ayotte said she and her husband were praying for the driver’s recovery.
“I want to thank the Trooper on my security detail and the bystanders who stepped up to help at the scene of the crash for their brave lifesaving efforts,” she said in a statement.
The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed.
