GARY, Ind. (WLS) — Two separate shooting incidents unfolded just minutes apart, resulting in the death of a child and injuring at least seven others in northwest Indiana, according to police statements.
Authorities from Gary reported that officers were dispatched shortly after midnight, around 12:34 a.m. on Sunday, to the vicinity of 19th Avenue and Hanley Street following alerts of gunfire.

As the officers made their way to the scene, information surfaced that several victims had already reached Methodist Northlake Hospital independently. At least six individuals transported themselves, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately clear.
Shortly thereafter, at 12:49 a.m., law enforcement received another call about a shooting victim in the 200-block of Chase Street, approximately four miles from the initial disturbance. During their response, they were informed that a 10-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man had been shot and transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital.
Tragically, the young boy succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. He has been identified by the Lake County, Indiana Coroner’s Office as Montana Weathers, a resident of Chicago.
The 50-year-old man was transported to another Chicago-area hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
