Britney Spears slams Kevin Federline for 'gaslighting' her with his book

Britney Spears has responded to allegations made by her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, in his forthcoming memoir that touches upon their brief marriage and accuses her of various misdeeds.

In a post on X on Wednesday evening, the “Toxic” singer expressed her frustration, stating, “The constant gaslighting from my ex-husband is both extremely hurtful and exhausting.” She was referring to the memoir excerpts and Federline’s recent media appearances.

Spears elaborated on her desire to maintain a relationship with her children, saying, “I have always pleaded and fought to have a life with my boys. Relationships with teenage sons are complex. I have felt belittled by this situation and have consistently asked, almost begged, for them to be part of my life.”

The pop star further claimed that her sons with Federline, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, “have always observed the lack of respect their father shows towards me.” She emphasized that as adults, they “need to take responsibility for themselves.”

Spears also revealed the limited time she’s spent with her children, noting that “one son” had only visited her for “45 minutes in the past year,” while the other had only “four visits in the past five years.”

“I have pride too,” the songstress, 43, wrote. “From now on I will let them know when I am available. Trust me, those white lies in that book, they are going straight to the bank and I am the only one who genuinely gets hurt here.”

The “I’m a Slave 4 You” singer concluded her social media statement with love for her boys. “I will always love them and if you really know me, you won’t pay attention to the tabloids of my mental health and drinking,” she wrote.

“I am actually a pretty intelligent woman who has been trying to live a sacred and private life the past 5 years. I speak on this because I have had enough and any real woman would do the same.”

A rep for Federline did not immediately return Page Six’s request for comment on Wednesday evening.

The former backup dancer’s book, “You Thought You Knew,” is set to hit shelves on Oct. 21 — but Federline, 47 — to whom Spears was married from 2004 to 2007 — has been leaking excerpts ahead of its release.

In one excerpt obtained by the New York Times on Tuesday, Federline alleged that their sons “Would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand.”

In an interview released Tuesday, Federline claimed he was worried for the Grammy winner and their kids, citing allegedly “erratic behavior.”

“I’m absolutely — as a father — terrified that one day I might wake up and my sons are going to have to deal with the unimaginable,” he told Entertainment Tonight of his former wife in an interview released Tuesday.

The father of six also claimed to Entertainment Tonight that he walked in on Spears calling ex Justin Timberlake on the night before their 2004 wedding.

A rep for Spears blasted the sensational claims in a statement to Page Six on Wednesday. “With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again, he and others are profiting off her,” they said.

“Sadly, it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” they added. The pop princess was required to pay Federline $20,000 per month until her youngest son, Jayden, turned 18. At one point, she was paying him 40,000 per month, as both boys lived with him in Hawaii.

Federline obtained custody of the former couple’s children following Spears’ series of public meltdowns in the mid 2000s. She was subsequently placed on a restrictive legal conservatorship, which ended after 13 years in 2021.

Spears isn’t the only one who has thoughts on Federline’s book — in August, her ex-husband Sam Asghari dissed the former pro dancer in comments to TMZ.

When asked what he thought of Federline’s upcoming book, which “details [Federline’s] marriage with Britney,” Asghari replied, “Well, he was a professional father.”

He added that Federline’s memoir “would be the first book that’ll tell you how to be a professional father.”

Federline, for his part, laughed off the comments in September. “I think every father should strive to be a professional father,” he told paparazzi in Hawaii.
