The mayor of Broadview, a western suburb of Chicago, has urged the federal government to compensate the village for expenses incurred during the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration operation known as “Midway Blitz.”

Mayor Katrina Thompson revealed that the operation cost local businesses and services over $700,000, and she is now pushing for these funds to be reimbursed.

In her effort to gain support, Thompson has reached out to federal lawmakers from Illinois, requesting their assistance in securing the reimbursement and advocating for the permanent closure of the Broadview ICE facility.

“Broadview neither requested nor should bear the financial burden of this operation,” Thompson stated. “Our community, including residents, police, and firefighters, should not be financially responsible for federal actions. I am advocating for federal reimbursement for affected communities like ours and calling for the closure of the Broadview ICE Processing Center to prioritize dignity, safety, and a brighter future for our village.”
