The brother of Anna Haslup spoke for the first time following her murder on Christmas Day.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of Anna Haslup is still in shock after she was shot and killed on Christmas Day.

Haslup drove her friend, Thomas Williams, to a Walgreens in Gainesville to pick up his 11-month-old daughter. The child’s mother, Amanda Janzen, reportedly walked up to the car and shot at them, killing Haslup and injuring Williams. Janzen is now in jail facing murder and attempted murder charges.

Haslup’s older brother, Keith Wink, remembers his sister as the type of person who always helped people in need.

“If a kid needed it, or a person in general, or baby, she loved babies. She would volunteer to do stuff for the community. I mean, she just was a good person,” Wink explained.

Wink said Haslup and Williams had been friends for more than 10 years. She was even the godmother of his child. Wink said that is why she offered to take Williams to Gainesville to pick up his daughter.

“She was the godmother to the child, she was excited to see the baby, too,” Wink said.

Williams is still recovering from the shooting. Wink said Williams is thinking about changing his baby’s name to Anna in honor of his longtime friend.

Haslup also left behind four children of her own. Wink said the family is now doing everything they can to make sure her children are taken care of.

“She did a lot for them. They were her world. She was single most of the time. It’s a tragedy. She was a good woman,” Wink said.

Haslup was a volunteer firefighter with the Putnam County Fire Department. The department was supposed to be hosting a boot drive on Sunday, Jan. 7, to raise money for her funeral expenses, but that drive was canceled.

A representative with the Putnam County Fire Rescue Union told First Coast News not enough members were able to attend and put on the drive safely. A new date has not been announced.

A GoFundMe was set up to help Haslup’s family with funeral expenses.
