During Tuesday’s episode of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power,” Representative Gregory Meeks (D-NY) accused President Donald Trump of attempting to undermine the electoral process by restricting voter access.

Meeks likened Trump’s actions to “Jim Crow 2.0,” expressing concerns about new barriers that could hinder nearly 30 to 40 percent of the population, including many women, from casting their votes. He highlighted issues such as discrepancies in identification for women who may use their husband’s surname, leading to mismatches with their birth certificates. Additionally, he noted that a significant portion of Americans do not own passports, which could further complicate their ability to vote if passports become a necessary form of identification.

The congressman attributed these efforts to the President’s declining approval ratings, which have reportedly fallen below 40 percent. Meeks suggested that Trump is dragging down fellow Republicans in Congress and is now attempting to “steal an election” by obstructing voter participation. However, Meeks expressed confidence that these tactics would ultimately fail to disrupt the democratic process.
