In an eerie twist of history, John Hinckley Jr. remarked on the unsettling coincidence that a recent alleged assassination attempt on President Donald Trump occurred at the same Washington, D.C., hotel where he once shot President Ronald Reagan. Reports highlighted Hinckley’s description of the situation as “spooky.”

This recent incident took place during the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night, casting a shadow over the event.

Authorities detailed how Cole Allen, a 32-year-old from Torrance, California, allegedly burst into the venue, opening fire before being apprehended by law enforcement. In the chaos, a Secret Service agent sustained injuries.

The swift actions of Secret Service agents ensured the safety of President Trump, the first lady, and Cabinet members, quickly escorting them out of the hotel. Meanwhile, journalists attending the dinner were seen taking cover as the situation unfolded.

President Ronald Reagan waving to onlookers outside the Washington Hilton

Reflecting on history, one cannot help but recall the moment on March 30, 1981, when President Ronald Reagan waved to a crowd just moments before John Hinckley Jr. attempted to assassinate him outside the same Washington Hilton. The chilling parallel between the two events adds a layer of historical resonance to the recent incident.

In an interview with TMZ, Hinckley Jr. called it “spooky” to learn that the shooting “took place at the same hotel as mine did.” He told the outlet he found out about the attack when a newsflash popped up on his phone, and he turned on the TV to follow coverage of it.

Hinckley said the security at the Washington Hilton is too “lax,” and the hotel should not be hosting large-scale events.

That is the same hotel where he shot Reagan and three other victims in 1981.

Hinckley had an obsession with actress Jodie Foster and wrote her a letter telling her he wanted to shoot Reagan.

The assassination attempt failed, and Hinckley was arrested, tried and found not guilty by reason of insanity in 1982.

The court ordered him to live at a psychiatric hospital up until his release in 2022.
