City of Madison says second baby surrendered at baby box

MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — The City of Madison has announced that a second baby has been surrendered to the city through its new baby box.

The city announced Wednesday that Madison Fire and Rescue received a second infant through the Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station 1. According to the city, after proper assessment and care by the fire department’s team, the infant was transferred to Madison Hospital by HEMSI for further evaluation.

The Alabama Department of Human Resources has been notified and agencies are working for the best interest of the child, the city said.

No further information is available at this time.

The city said it will continue to provide emergency response to every infant placed in the Safe Haven Baby Box. Resources for mothers in crisis are available through the Safe Haven Organizations hotline at 1-866-99BABY1.
