In the upcoming November election, Senator Cory Booker from New Jersey will compete against Justin Murphy, the victor of the state’s Republican Senate primary.
Booker, who encountered no challengers in the Democratic primary, aims to secure a third term as New Jersey’s representative in the U.S. Senate.
Murphy emerged as the Republican contender with approximately 33% of the vote, surpassing opponents such as surgeon Robert Lebovics, Army veteran Richard Tabor, and former TV journalist Alex Zdan in a competitive four-way race.

Previously, Murphy served on the Tabernacle township committee and made an unsuccessful attempt to secure the New Jersey GOP Senate nomination in 2024.
On his campaign website, Murphy highlights his commitment to the military, stating, “Just as I pledged in 2024, I dedicate this campaign to the brave men and women of our armed forces. I firmly believe that the American Military stands as the greatest force for good globally, second only to religious institutions.”
Murphy also emphasized āour countryās culture, parental rights, healthcare system, and economic opportunity for all Americans.āĀ
The GOP Senate nominee opposes the legalization of marijuana and other drugs; backs āaggressive deportationā of criminal migrants; believes China is āthe most serious threatā facing the country; and supports President Trumpās efforts to boost domestic energy production.Ā
Knocking off Booker in the midterms will be a tall task for Republicans.Ā

The incumbentās Senate seat is considered āsolidā Democrat by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.Ā
About 38% of registered voters in the Garden State are Democrats, compared to the 25% who are Republican. Another 36% are unaffiliated.Ā
New Jersey voters also solidly supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race over President Trump, as well as Democrat Mikie Sherrill in her 2025 gubernatorial contest against Republican Jack Ciattarelli.Ā
Booker, who is considered a potential 2028 Democratic presidential contender, won his 2020 Senate re-election race by about 17 percentage points.Ā
New Jersey voters havenāt elected a Republican to the Senate since 1972.
