Luxury portable toilets sought after ahead of NFL Draft

NEWTON, Wis. (WFRV) — Among the many aspects and events Green Bay is preparing for ahead of April’s NFL Draft is the need to serve the hundreds of thousands of visitors who will have to use the restroom.

Maynard’s Neat and Clean Portables, owned by Greg Grotegut, is one supplier that will likely be filling this demand, but not with typical port-a-potties. Grotegut’s Newton business rents out “high-end” models.

“I sold the plastic, went strictly into luxury restroom trailers and containers, and here I am today. Seems to be a newer venture and it seems to be doing good for me,” Grotegut told Nexstar’s WFRV. “Our trailers set themselves apart from plastic portables. They come fully stocked with flushing toilets to handwash sinks. They’re very high-end. Air conditioning systems, stereo systems.”

Grotegut has owned the business since 2004 and got into the line of work when he used to help his brother-in-law service septic systems. He built his first portable luxury trailer and then got into plastic portables.

Grotegut’s portables can be used year-round, so weather is not a concern for the draft, though chillier temperatures would require more work.

“There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes things that go on with hauling extra water, and even this time of year, hauling fresh water in the colder climates,” Grotegut said. “Our trailers are ready either way, they have heaters and air conditioners. Either way, we’ll take care of the people using them.”

Demand for his luxury portable potties has been high for the area around Lambeau Field for NFL Draft week, allowing for a price increase, according to Grotegut.

“There’s going to be a little bit of a price increase with the demand out there, and just the cost of these trailers is such a significant cost,” he said. “[There] is a lot of interest around Lambeau, party houses. So we are giving out a lot of estimates at this time, and will hopefully be signing some contracts shortly. In the last month, it’s been several dozen [inquiries], so business is starting to pick up here.”

Maynard’s offers a variety of portables, from single bathrooms to four, as well as different levels of service.

“Some people want a service attendant there making sure that the supplies are filled, the tanks are empty and everything is restocked hourly. It’s been more house parties and corporate and those types of things at this point,” Grotegut said. “I’m sure we’ll be out there maintaining them all after hours making sure the equipment’s proper and ready for the daytime activities up there.”

Other vendors closer to Green Bay have even been calling in for potential backup.

“I’ve been talking to other vendors that contacted me already about any help, if we can help each other out and make it through this,” Grotegut said. “Kind of used to some of the chaos that goes on with that, it’s good, it’s organized and typically everybody’s out there and there’s plenty of business.”

Grotegut said his trailers may be more expensive than typical port-a-potties; however, they’re worth every dollar spent and every compliment received.

“Your guests will rave about what we have to offer. These restroom trailers, they sell themselves,” he said. “Oftentimes I get the comment that ‘they’re nicer than the bathrooms that I have at my own house.’ So they’re well put together.”

The NFL Draft is set to start on April 24.
