Ron DeSantis on Thursday mocked Joe Biden for tripping on stage at an Air Force event, saying he wishes him a speedy recovery – but also wishes the country ‘a swift recovery from the injuries sustained because of Joe Biden and his policies.’

DeSantis was speaking at a campaign stop in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Shortly before, Biden, 80, had tripped over a sandbag on the stage in Colorado Springs and fell to the floor. He was helped up, and was not harmed, carrying on with the remainder of the event.

‘We hope and wish Joe Biden a swift recovery from any injuries he may have sustained,’ said the Florida governor.

‘But we also wish the United States of America a swift recovery from the injuries sustained because of Joe Biden and his policies.’

DeSantis showed markedly less concern than Donald Trump, who learnt of Biden’s fall during a campaign stop.

‘He actually fell down?’ Well I hope he wasn’t hurt,’ the former president said on the campaign trail in Iowa, when told about the 80-year-old’s tumble.

Images of Biden being helped back up after his trip will spark more concerns about his age and health during his second run for president.

‘The whole thing is crazy. You’ve got to be careful about that. Even if you have to tiptoe down a ramp,’ Trump added.

Trump was referencing the moment he left the stage at the West Point military academy three years ago, and appeared to gingerly shuffle down the ramp.

DeSantis, 44, used his speech on Thursday to accuse Donald Trump of failing to deliver for the American people during his time in the White House.

The Florida governor made his remarks after suggesting that he would need two terms as commander-in-chief to finish what he calls the ‘Great American comeback.’

One reporter asked the recently-declared Republican presidential candidate about Trump’s claims that he could turn around the country within six months from entering the Oval Office.

A visibly-irritated DeSantis shot back: ‘Why didn’t he do it in his first four years?’.

DeSantis has been involved in a series of testy exchanges with the media since his botched launch on Twitter with Tesla billionaire Elon Musk.

Earlier in the day, he clashed with a journalist from the Associated Press news agency who asked why he had not taken part in a traditional question and answer session with voters at an event in Laconia, New Hampshire.

Shortly after the fiery exchange, one attendee asked the Navy veteran how to pronounce his surname correctly before asking for a selfie.

The one-time Congressman has switched between ‘Dee-Santis’ and ‘Deh-Santis’ since announcing his tilt for the White House.

And Trump took to his Truth Social platform earlier, mocking his former protégé after his own campaign team declined to say how it should be pronounced.

Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said: ‘If you can’t get your name right, how can you lead a country?

DeSantis made the stop in Rochester, New Hampshire where he delivered a nearly identical scripted speech to his address in Laconia earlier that day.

He railed against ‘woke ideology’ and slammed the Biden administration for spending too heavily.

‘Washington D.C. ain’t producing very much of anything except for mountains of debt and loads of hot air,´ he told an audience of some 500 locals.
