Over the weekend, at the Sundance Film Festival, Jennifer Lopez premiered her new movie, “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” However, one of her co-stars was noticeably absent.

Diego Luna, who stars opposite Lopez, 55, in the musical drama, had to miss the premiere due to a “family emergency.”

Director Bill Condon elaborated on Luna’s absence on Sunday at a Los Angeles Times panel about the film.

The director, Condon, mentioned, “[Diego] sends his love. I know he had a family emergency that kept him in Madrid, but he’s heartbroken not to be here,” as reported by People.

The Post has reached out to Luna’s rep for comment.

Condon’s “Kiss of the Spider Woman” is adapted from the Tony Award-winning musical, which is based on Manuel Puig’s 1976 novel.

In the film, Luna portrays a political prisoner during Argentina’s civil war. Her cellmate, played by newcomer Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, tells a story about an old movie featuring his favorite classic screen actress, Ingrid Luna (played by Lopez).

A Sundance synopsis of the movie reads, “Jennifer Lopez is an astonishing scene-stealer in a career-highlight performance as Luna/Aurora, with showstopping musical numbers that underscore the exuberant prowess of her dancing and voice. Diego Luna delivers unrelenting revolutionary conviction as Valentín, and Tonatiuh gives his Molina a tenderhearted power and theatrical flair.”

The film’s director and stars, minus Luna, were at the premiere on Sunday, where Lopez was brought to tears after receiving a standing ovation from the audience at Park City’s Eccles Theatre.

“I’ve been waiting for this moment my whole life,” the superstar told the crowd, per Variety. “The reason I even wanted to be in this business is because my mom would sit me in front of the TV and [‘West Side Story’] would come on once a year. I was mesmerized and was like, ‘That’s what I want to do.’”

“This is the first time I actually got to do it,” Lopez said. “This man [Condon] made my dream come true.”

In an interview with Variety at Sundance, Lopez was asked about getting Oscar buzz for her role in her first movie musical.

“I don’t even wanna begin the conversation,” she admitted. “Being able to do the film is so great. Of course I would love to get the recognition that I believe it deserves.”

Before Sundance, Lopez said that working on “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” which she also produced, was “probably my favorite movie experience” in her career.

The film comes on the heels of her film “Unstoppable,” which was produced by her now ex-husband Ben Affleck. The drama premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Sept. 2024.
