Electronic Arts has revealed that “The Sims Mobile” will permanently cease operations on January 20, 2026, marking the end of an era for the beloved mobile game. This announcement concludes nearly eight years of virtual life simulation for fans who have enjoyed the mobile adaptation of the iconic “Sims” series.

On October 20, the game’s developers rolled out a final update, officially bringing new content releases to a close. The following day, on October 21, the game was removed from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Despite this, existing players will still be able to enjoy the game until its official shutdown in early 2026.

“The Sims Mobile” made its debut in 2018 as a free-to-play version of EA’s widely celebrated life simulation franchise. The mobile adaptation quickly found its footing, amassing $25 million in revenue from in-game purchases within just its first six months on the market.

While the decision to end the game may come as a disappointment to its loyal fanbase, players still have the opportunity to immerse themselves in their virtual worlds for a few more years. As the community prepares to say goodbye, the legacy of “The Sims Mobile” will undoubtedly be remembered fondly by its devoted players.

“The Sims Mobile” launched in 2018 as a free-to-play mobile spin-off of EA’s popular life simulator series. The mobile game generated $25 million in its first six months on the market thanks to in-game transactions.

At 1:59 p.m. UTC on Jan. 20, 2026, the game’s servers will shut down completely, making the online-only game unplayable. Because game progress is stored on EA’s servers, all saved data will be lost when the servers close.

In its final months, EA is providing players with several features. The Oct. 20 update gave all players unlimited energy, and starting Jan. 6, 2026, all Build Mode and Create A Sim items will be unlocked for everyone, regardless of level or past purchases.

As of Oct. 20, players can no longer purchase in-game currency or premium packs with real money, though any existing SimCash, Simoleons or Tickets can still be used until the servers shut down. EA will not provide refunds for any remaining in-game currency after the shutdown.

The developer did not explain the reason for shutting down The Sims Mobile, but the announcement comes as EA transitions from a publicly traded company to a privately held one through a $55 billion buyout deal with investors including private equity firm Silver Lake, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and Affinity Partners.

“The Sims” franchise remains active, with a new update for “The Sims 4” released in September and ongoing plans for a new Sims game exploring online multiplayer features.

“First, we want to say thank you,” the development team wrote in its farewell message. “The Sims Mobile and The Sims community as a whole are full of creativity, kindness and imagination. You’ve amazed us with your stories, builds and Sims.”
