Now that’s commitment.

After wrapping up a late-night shoot for the second season of “The Lowdown” in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ethan Hawke caught a flight to Hollywood to attend the Emmys “For Your Consideration” event for the series. The show has marked a significant milestone in his career.

“This is a first for me! I’ve never experienced a second season for any project before,” Hawke shared with On The Red Carpet.

In the series, Hawke takes on the role of Lee Raybon, a rare book dealer and author determined to unveil the corruption plaguing his cherished city of Tulsa. The first season, praised by critics, follows Lee as he investigates the mysterious suicide of Dale Washberg, the outcast of the influential Washberg family. His relentless pursuit of the truth puts him in the dangerous orbit of some of the city’s most formidable figures.

“These are the roles that ignite a passion for acting,” Hawke explained. “Characters that resonate with you and stories you feel compelled to tell.”

Hawke, who is also an executive producer on the show, said they’re currently in the thick of filming.

Betty Gilpin, Austin Amelio, Martha Plimpton and Clifton Collins, Jr. have been added to the cast, along with Tommy Lee Jones.

“He’s always been one of my favorite actors and he’s come to Tulsa guns blazing,” Hawke said. “We’ve been having a great time working together.”

“It’s a little bit daunting in that you can have the second album jitters. But in the same level it’s, ‘well it’s the same band, we know what we’re doing, and we can do it better,’” he said.

“The second season, the stakes just get higher,” said Sterlin Harjo, the show’s creator, writer and director. “Lee’s personal life, I think the stakes are raised. And also his personal life, even more so than the first season, is intersecting with the dangers of his job.”

“Everything’s getting more tangled up and I feel like it’s a bit of a pressure cooker around Ethan’s character, Lee. And, you know, the fun is watching how he responds to it all,” Harjo added.

Season one of “The Lowdown” is currently streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of FX, Hulu and this ABC station.
