Rory McIlroy made a historic start at the Masters, achieving six straight 3s on his scorecard and claiming the lead on Saturday. His stellar performance put him in prime position to contend for the coveted green jacket and complete a career Grand Slam.
McIlroy chipped in for eagle as part of his amazing start.
In a thrilling turn of events, McIlroy sealed his impressive round with another eagle, hitting a remarkable 6-iron shot to within 6 feet on the par-5 15th hole. As other contenders closed in on him, this extraordinary shot helped him secure a second consecutive 6-under 66 score.

“It was an awesome day and puts me in a great position going into tomorrow,” McIlroy said.
Building on his solid start, McIlroy found himself two shots ahead of Bryson DeChambeau, a familiar rival. DeChambeau also showcased his skills by sinking a 45-foot birdie putt at the beginning of his round and closing with a nearly 50-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to card a 69.

It was DeChambeau who crushed McIlroy’s spirit last year at Pinehurst No. 2 by beating him at the U.S. Open, stretching McIlroy’s drought in the majors to more than a decade.
