BOSTON (WIAT) — Former UAB basketball star Trey Jemison made his first career NBA start with the Memphis Grizzlies against the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
The 6-foot-11 rookie center tallied six points, four rebounds, two blocks and two turnovers in the Grizzlies’ 131-91 loss at the TD Garden. It was Jemison’s fourth NBA game. The Birmingham native scored his first five NBA points versus the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday.
Jemison, who started the 2023-24 campaign with the NBA G League’s Birmingham Squadron, signed a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards on Jan. 20. He competed in two games as a Wizard and recorded two minutes, one rebound and one turnover. When that contract expired, Jemison agreed to a 10-day deal with the Grizzlies on Tuesday.
Jemison, who attended Ramsay, Homewood and Hoover high schools, spent his first two college seasons at Clemson. He transferred to UAB for the 2020-21 season.
Because of the NCAA’s COVID-19 policies, the center was granted an extra year of eligibility. In Jemison’s fifth college season, he set the single-season UAB record with 329 rebounds. He was named to the Conference USA All-Defensive Team and Third Team All-Conference USA.
