On Wednesday morning, federal authorities conducted searches involving Eric Adams’ former senior adviser and several ex-NYPD officers. These actions were part of distinct corruption investigations targeting the police department and Brooklyn influential figure, Frank Carone.
In a pre-dawn raid, Carone’s residence was searched, and he was taken into custody under accusations involving a bribery scheme, as reported by law enforcement sources. This arrest is part of a broader investigation by the Eastern District.
Additionally, federal agents searched the homes of former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, former Assistant Chief James McCarthy, and previous lead police spokesperson Tarik Sheppard, according to these sources.
These inquiries have emerged from an NYPD investigation into Maddrey’s suspected misallocation of finances, prompting the involvement of the FBI to provide further investigative support.
Sources indicate that authorities are scrutinizing possible bribery and other forms of misconduct by the former top-tier police officials.
The feds also arrested others in the Carone case, however, its was unclear how many others and who were taken away in cuffs, sources said.
