Chaos erupted near a bustling Bronx subway station Thursday evening when a gunman unleashed a hail of bullets, hitting two individuals and causing a wave of fear among the crowd.
This incident, which unfolded near the West Farms Square-E Tremont Avenue subway stop, was captured in chilling clarity on surveillance cameras. The footage reveals a man clad in a white hoodie indiscriminately firing into a plaza around 6 p.m.
As the shooter casually approached West Farms Square plaza, he abruptly began shooting towards a group gathered near a store, turning an ordinary evening into a scene of terror.
In a particularly dramatic moment, one man toppled over a bench and tumbled onto the pavement. It remains uncertain whether he was struck by gunfire or simply reacting to the chaos.
The sound of gunfire sent several bystanders into a frantic rush for safety, as the gunman made his escape, leaving behind a shaken community.
The NYPD said two people were shot.
A 20-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and a 31-year-old was hit in the buttocks, police said.
Both victims were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
It’s unclear if the vicitms were innocent bystanders or intended targets.
No arrests were made as of late Thursday.
