BRUNSWICK, Ga. – Residents in Georgia — the Hickory Bluff and Sanctuary Cove areas — have been asked to evacuate and shelter in place after an industrial fire at the Symrise plant in Glynn County, according to Glynn County Board of Commissioners.
According to officials, the incident happened around 4 a.m. The plant was evacuated, along with neighborhoods within a one mile radius. Those within three miles of the plant were advised to shelter in place.
Three neighborhoods were evacuated: Hickory Bluff, Royal Oaks and Satilla Shores.
“A Code Red has been issued for northeast Camden County — the Hickory Bluff area and the area east of I-95 Exit 26 area,” law enforcement officials said. “People are being urged to evacuate because of smoke and fumes from the chemical fire.”
An evacuation order has been issued for the Hickory Bluff area and Sanctuary Cove subdivision east of I-95 due to a nearby chemical plant fire.

One firefighter was injured and suffered minor injuries, officials said. The fire has been contained. The Glynn County Board of Commissioners said wind shift is a concern.

School buses were also avoiding the area, school board officials confirmed.
If people don’t have a place to go they can go to Kingsland Recreation Center located behind Camden County High School, according to the Public Information Officer with the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.
Hazmat crews from Jacksonville were spotted at the scene and were assisting Georiga fire crews.
