An influential millennial ally of Donald Trump has quickly emerged as a key figure within the MAGA movement, serving as the president’s covert operative and allegedly orchestrating several high-profile Department of Justice actions against Democratic opponents.
Bill Pulte, a hyper-connected Florida real estate heir, was appointed as the Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) in March of last year. This role, traditionally considered low-key, involves oversight of major national mortgage entities such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Since assuming this position, Pulte has frequently made headlines. Notably, he was involved in a confrontation where Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent allegedly threatened him at a private club in Washington, D.C. Additionally, Pulte played a pivotal role in persuading Trump to endorse a groundbreaking 50-year mortgage initiative.
Poised to inherit a multibillion-dollar fortune, Pulte has also accumulated his own wealth through his private equity firm, Pulte Capital Partners. Before his foray into government, he cultivated a significant social media footprint.
On the platform X, Pulte attracted three million followers by sharing videos of himself distributing tens of thousands of dollars to those in need. He also collaborated with the popular 27-year-old billionaire YouTube personality MrBeast, a favorite among Gen Z audiences, on Instagram.
Dubbed an ‘agent of chaos’ by the Financial Times and ‘Little Trump’ by critics who accuse him of exercising his power far beyond the typical limits of his role, Pulte is not the conventional candidate to lead the staid FHFA.
In a stark break from the work of his predecessors, the 37-year-old has allegedly been weaponizing the inconspicuous housing agency to attack Trump’s political rivals behind the scenes as the president’s unofficial chief retribution officer.
He is accused in one lawsuit of using ‘government machinery to chill and silence the government’s critics’ by turning banal mortgage paperwork into a key form of attack.

He is currently under investigation by the Government Accountability Office over accusations that he ‘misused federal authority and resources’ by pursuing information about Trump’s enemies, according to CNBC.
Democrat lawmaker Eric Swalwell has identified himself as one of these targets in a lawsuit launched against Pulte which accuses him of rifling through his confidential borrowing records and handing them over to the DoJ as ‘evidence’ of fraud.
Swalwell’s lawsuit claims that Pulte is also behind similar investigations into Attorney General Letitia James, Lisa Cook, a Democratic appointee to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and California Senator Adam Schiff.
Now, insiders have told Bloomberg Pulte was also the driving force behind the Trump administration’s decision to subpoena Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell.
Powell has hit back, saying the criminal probe was an attempt to seek revenge against him for refusing to heed Trump’s demands to lower interest rates.
‘The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the president,’ he said.
‘This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions – or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.’
Pulte has denied any involvement in Powell’s case, saying that the Department of Justice (DOJ) alone was behind the subpoena accusing him of lying about the scope and cost of the $2.5 billion renovation of the Fed’s headquarters in Washington DC.
‘The DOJ is outside of my purview. This is out of my purview. I don’t know anything about it, and I would defer you to the DOJ,’ Pulte said when quizzed about the issue on Bloomberg Television.
Dubbed an ‘agent of chaos’ by the FT and ‘Little Trump’ by his enemies who accuse him of exercising his political power way beyond the typical limits of his role, Pulte (pictured at the January 9 press conference) is far from the conventional candidate to lead the staid FHFA.
Pulte has built a strong social media presence through his philanthropy, as he is often seen giving large chunks of money to people in need, while collaborating with the likes of 27-year-old billionaire YouTube creator and Gen Z favorite MrBeast, as shown in the image above

However, has made his personal feelings about Powell clear. ‘We do need to get rid of Jay Powell,’ he told a press conference on January 9.
‘He’s a disaster. What he’s caused with the building is a disgrace to the Fed. The Fed has no credibility as a result of him.
‘And his lack of investigation into Lisa Cook, who I think will be indicted for mortgage fraud – and I think she’s guilty as hell, that’s just my opinion as somebody who knows mortgages pretty well. It’s a disgrace what’s happened at the Fed.’
According to the Associated Press, before Pulte began targeting Trump’s political enemies, he ‘practiced on his own family’, including allegedly trashing an aunt as a ‘fake Christian’ on one website.
He also accused his grandfather’s widow of insider trading, and publicly blasted another relative as ‘a fat slob,’ ‘weirdo’ and ‘grifter,’ per court records from a bitter legal feud pursued by Pulte which also involved PulteGroup.
PulteGroup is the multibillion-dollar homebuilding giant his grandfather William Pulte founded in 1956. Pulte is married to Diana Lorenzini Pulte, who works for one of his companies, Pulte Health, according to her LinkedIn profile.
The millennial heir, whose own net worth is an estimated $200 million, is now facing a lawsuit launched by Swalwell, who has accused him of being the driving force behind the Trump administration’s chilling attempt to try to silence critics.
The California Congressman is one of the most recognizable faces of the Russia investigation conducted by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence which implicated Trump, and a frequent target of the president’s ire on Truth Social.

Pulte, whose net worth is an estimated $200 million, is now facing a lawsuit of his own, launched by California Congressman Eric Swalwell (pictured), who has accused him of being the driving force behind the Trump administration’s chilling attempt to try to silence critics
Swalwell’s lawsuit states that Pulte is also behind similar investigations into Attorney General Letitia James (pictured), Lisa Cook, a Democratic appointee to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, and California Senator Adam Schiff
Swalwell also filed a lawsuit against Trump and his son Donald Trump Jr., accusing them of inciting the actions of the rioters who descended on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.
In his latest lawsuit taking aim at Pulte, the lawmaker accuses the FHFA tsar of ‘the use of government machinery to chill and silence the government’s critics’.
‘Pulte and his Co-Defendants have played an integral role in supporting President Trump’s campaign of retribution against his political foes,’ Swalwell claims in the suit seen by the Daily Mail, filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
‘Since taking office, President Trump has engaged in unprecedented efforts to leverage the power of the Federal Government to seek retribution against his political enemies,’ the suit adds.
‘Those efforts have resulted in the Department of Justice conducting a series of high-profile criminal investigations and prosecutions nakedly targeting some of the President’s most outspoken critics.’
The suit accuses Pulte of ‘playing a central role in these investigations and prosecutions’ and ‘abusing his position by scouring databases’ at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to access the ‘private mortgage records of several prominent Democrats’.
‘He then used those records to concoct fanciful allegations of mortgage fraud, which he referred to the Department of Justice for prosecution,’ the suit claims.
In November, the DoJ accused Swalwell of falsely claiming his District of Columbia home as his primary residence on a mortgage agreement in order to secure more favorable loan terms.
Pulte (shown in an image shared via his X account) has previously hit the headlines after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent threatened to punch him in the face at a private members club in DC, and for convincing Trump to back a radical 50-year mortgage plan
Swalwell has said this is ‘patently false’, saying this record came attached to an affidavit that ‘made clear that the home would be his wife’s primary residence’.
Similar accusations have also been launched against Trump critics Letitia James, Lisa Cook, and Adam Schiff. Cook was swiftly removed from her post on the Federal Reserve board due to the referral from Pulte.
Swalwell’s lawsuit accuses Pulte of violating the First Amendment by targeting him ‘for criminal prosecution based solely on his protected political speech and views’, and the Privacy Act by accessing his private mortgage documents.
His attorneys have said the FHFA has never asked Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to access personal mortgage records associated with specific individuals until Pulte became the director.
Swalwell also accuses Pulte of orchestrating a ‘coordinated leak’ of the alleged fraud linked to his mortgage records at a ‘critical juncture’ in his career – just as he was planning to announce his campaign for the Governor of California.
The Daily Mail has contacted the offices of both Pulte and Swalwell for comment.
