Investigation Launched After Infant Girl Discovered Deceased in Lake Michigan by 57th Street Beach, According to Chicago Police

CHICAGO (WLS) — An infant was found dead Saturday in Lake Michigan on the South Side.

The discovery was made around 11:23 a.m. in the 5700 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive near 57th Street Beach, Chicago police said.

The infant, a baby girl whose exact age was not yet known, was recovered from water at the location, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chicago police detectives are conducting a death investigation. No further information was immediately available.

Later in the day, a woman also died after being pulled from Lake Michigan at a nearby South Side beach, police said.

The water recovery happened around 2:23 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Hayes Drive near 63rd Street Beach, Chicago police said.

A 31-year-old woman was recovered from the water and was pronounced dead at the scene, CPD said. Her identity was not yet known.

No further information was available as another Chicago police death investigation is underway.

Police have not said whether or not the water deaths are connected.
