LOS ANGELES — In an emotional interview, Jake Reiner opened up about the harrowing experience of losing his parents just eight months ago, describing the period since their death as a “living nightmare.”
At 34, Jake stands as the eldest child of the famed director Rob Reiner and his wife, noted photographer Michele Reiner. The couple was brutally murdered in their Brentwood, Los Angeles home on December 14, 2025. Facing charges of double murder is Jake’s younger brother, Nick Reiner, who is 32.
“You can’t truly grasp the reality of such an ordeal until it becomes your life,” Jake shared with heartfelt candor. “Eight months have passed, yet it feels like an eternity while somehow also feeling like it’s all happened in just a fleeting moment. Each morning I wake up to face the shocking truth anew.”
On the tragic day they were taken, Jake Reiner was attending a memorial event for a high school friend at Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles. Meanwhile, his sister Romy was trying to get in touch with him.
“Romy called, but I ignored it initially, figuring I could return her call later since I was busy at the time,” Jake recounted. “However, when she immediately called again, I knew right then that something terrible had happened.”
“Romy told me our dad was dead, and then she said, ‘I can’t find mom,'” he said.
