The incident happened at Sonoma Southside Condominium Rentals in April 2023 and was captured on Ring camera video.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Nearly a year after a woman was robbed at gunpoint outside her Jacksonville Southside apartment, First Coast News is learning a man is facing charges in the case.

Tyriek Sherwood, 27, faces an armed robbery while wearing a mask or hood charge, his arrest report states.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said on April 12, 2023, a woman identified as Hilary Dean, 31, was approached by Sherwood and another man who were both wearing hoodies, masks and dressed in all-black clothing.

The incident happened at Sonoma Southside Condominium Rentals and was captured on Ring camera video, showing one of the men holding a gun to Dean’s head.

Dean told First Coast News in April 2023 that her children were on the other side of her apartment door, listening to their mother beg for her life.

“He’s saying like, ‘Shut up, or I’m going to kill you.’ But, all I knew was to get down on my knees and start screaming,” Dean said.

Hearing her screams, Dean’s boyfriend rushed out of her apartment, scaring the men off and possibly saving her life.

The men took a blue bag from Dean she was holding in the video, according to JSO.

“Dean advised she had just received an envelope of cash from her mother, which was in the blue bag along with miscellaneous food items,” the report states.

The sheriff’s office says a piece of a black latex glove – the fingertip portion – was found at the scene when officers were collecting evidence.

“Both suspects appear to be wearing black latex gloves during the robbery,” Sherwood’s arrest report states. “It is likely that this piece of glove came from the first suspect, as he is reaching around Dean and holding onto the bag as Dean falls to the ground.”

It wasn’t until Feb. 19, 2024, when JSO got confirmation from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement through DNA analysis, that “the DNA from the glove piece matched buccal swabs collected from Tyriek Sherwood,” the report states.

JSO says its Crime Analyst Unit located Sherwood’s social media accounts; in one of the accounts, he appears to be marketing a clothing brand by the name, “Bank Official,” the report says.

“The first suspect in the Ring video is wearing black pants, with a larger logo on the front of the left leg, and a line of text on the front of the right leg,” the report states. “This appears to match the pants marketed under the ‘Bank Official’ name.”

Sherwood was arrested on Feb. 29, 2024, after detectives used social media and found out that he owned a barber shop in Jacksonville’s Brentwood area, his arrest report states.

Police say “covert vehicles” spotted Sherwood enter into a tan Hyundai Santa Cruz. The vehicles then followed and arrested him during a traffic stop in the 7600 block of Lem Turner Road on an active warrant with an armed robbery charge.

It is unclear if the second man in the video has been arrested.

Sherwood is currently in custody on no bond and is set to be back in court Thursday morning.

Dean warned others to be hyperaware of their surroundings while also dreading the possibility of what could have happened.

“This is scary,” Dean said. “It’s not just scary for me. It’s scary for my kids. It’s scary for other people’s kids. For other women, for single women. This could happen to anybody. We never know at any time what could happen. What could’ve happened if my boyfriend wasn’t home to scare them off? What would happen to my kids? Anything could have happened. What if that gun would have went off and it would have hurt me?”
