JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man died Friday night after a hit-and-run took place in Jacksonville’s Arlington area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO’s Sergeant Hungerford says at approximately 7:56 p.m., the man who was in his early-50s, was attempting to cross the street in the 1000 block of Arlington Road when a white Nissan sedan hit him. Hungerford says the man was struck by the car while “walking westbound across the road after he made it to the southbound lanes, in the outside lane.”

“He was not in a crosswalk, he was just crossing the road,” Hungerford told First Coast News. “It wasn’t a very well lit spot as well.”

The man was taken to a local hospital where he died.

A witness told police, according to Hungerford, that the driver of the Nissan is a “younger Black female with braids that was pulled up into a bun.” The sedan made a U-turn and continued northbound on Arlington Road before turning eastbound on Lillian Road, headed towards Lone Star Road, police say.

“We believe there’s damage on the passenger side of the suspect[‘s] vehicle,” Hungerford said. “They [the witness] described it as either a 2016 to 2018, and they said that it did not have any window tint, so that’s what we’re looking for.”

The crash marks as the 33rd traffic fatality in Duval County for 2024 and the eighth involving a pedestrian, according to Hungerford.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
