Midland, Texas Shooting: Gunman Barricades Self in Standoff Leaving Multiple Hospitalized

In West Texas, several individuals sustained injuries when an active shooter unleashed gunfire and subsequently barricaded himself within a building on Friday, according to official reports.

The Midland police are currently engaged in a tense “standoff” with the shooter following the morning’s eruption of gunfire, with videos circulating online capturing the distinct sound of multiple shots.

Stewart Doreen, a spokesperson for Midland, confirmed to USA TODAY that several injured individuals have been transported to the hospital.

Details regarding the extent of their injuries or their current conditions remain unavailable at this time.

“Officers responded swiftly to the scene, hearing gunfire emanating from the building, and took immediate action to secure and clear the vicinity,” stated Midland Police Chief Snow in an official release.

“Armored units were deployed, and partner agencies assisted in the response. Efforts to bring the standoff with the shooter to a safe resolution are ongoing.”

Officials have asked the public to avoid the 4600 block of West Wall Street. Midland is a city of about 130,000 located about 320 miles west of Austin.
