Trump had traveled to Long Island to campaign for his ally, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, in Blakeman’s unsuccessful bid for governor against Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul. Unofficial results showed Hochul leading by double digits.

Once the remaining votes are counted, Hochul could have defeated Blakeman in Nassau County, his home base on Long Island.

“We’re all talking about how Kathy Hochul carried Bruce Blakeman’s county,” Jacobs said boastfully.

Jacobs, who also serves as Nassau’s Democratic Party chairman, said roughly 5,000 paper and absentee ballots remained to be counted. Democrats have been winning those ballots by a 2-to-1 margin, he said.
